Murder at the Howard Johnson's
Comedy by Ron Clark and Sam Bobrick
Friday June 3 to Saturday July 2, 2011
Directed by Paul Hager & Judith Mallernee as Asst. Director
In a Howard Johnson's motel room somewhere in the United States, Arlene, a middle-aged femme fatale, and her lover, Mitchell, a smug and smarmy dentist, are planning to do away with Arlene's husband, Paul. Because Paul, a blundering used-car salesman, refuses to divorce Arlene, she aims to gain her freedom by drowning him in the bathtub. The plan goes awry, and months later, in another room at the same Howard Johnson's, it is Mitchell who is about to be offed. It seems that he's been unfaithful to the still-married Arlene, and she has convinced Paul to help her eliminate the philanderer. This plot, too, is destined to fail. In the third and final scene in yet another motel room, the two men, feeling foolish and betrayed, have joined forces against Arlene. Will the third attempt succeed? Or will Arlene survive, get over her mid-life crisis, and find happiness with just one man?
